Come, Listen to a Prophet's Voice

Dear Peoples,

This morning, for my personal study, I chose to read The Book of Mormon in the Book of Mosiah, chapter 2. This is king Benjamin’s address to the people of that land. Immediately, I recognized this pattern. Can you see it?

5 “And it came to pass that when they came up to the temple, they pitched their tents round about, every man according to his family, consisting of his wife, and his sons, and his daughters, and their sons, and their daughters, from the eldest down to the youngest, every family being separate one from another.

And they pitched their tents round about the temple, every man having his tent with the door thereof towards the temple, that thereby they might remain in their tents and hear the words which king Benjamin should speak unto them;”

To me, this sounds like General Conference! Families gather together and turn their hearts and minds, to hear the words of the Prophets and Apostles. This was way back, 124 years before Christ was born. Isn’t that amazing that they had this standard then, too?
The Prophet at the time, king Benjamin, gave a promise to the people, just like our Prophet does today:

41 “And moreover, I would desire that ye should consider on the blessed and happy state of those that keep the commandments of God. For behold, they are blessed in all things, both temporal and spiritual; and if they hold out faithful to the end they are received into heaven, that thereby they may dwell with God in a state of never-ending happiness. O remember, remember that these things are true; for the Lord God hath spoken it.”

I know that Jesus Christ leads this Church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints though the voice of His Prophet, President Thomas S. Monson. Whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same.” (D & C 1:38)

Sincerely, Shelbi

P.S. Yes, the word ‘king’ is not capitalized. This is how it was in the scriptures. :)

President Thomas S. Monson
