A Light and Example

Hello Dears,

So there are at least two, maybe three feet of snow, now! This torrent is supposed to continue tomorrow, as well. I cannot believe it, though I am very grateful we haven’t lost power. I actually got a little too warm earlier. I took my socks and shoes off…my toes are now cold, haha.

I keep thinking, “What is here in my heart and mind that others could benefit from?” I can’t think of anything too drastic right now. Maybe it’s just that I am trying to be myself. I can’t change anyone’s mind about life, but I can certainly be a good example. I hope you decide to be YOU because of this.

Sincerely, The Thinker

A Deeper Meaning

Hello again,

Well, it’s here. There’s about 4 inches of snow on the back deck. We are supposed to get a minimum of 12. Woohoo. I seriously thought this was going to be more fun. Alas, it’s not. When we lived in the western half of the country, we would get snow sometimes as early as October. It would all melt and be gone for good in March, though sometimes later. One Sunday morning, I remember waking up to 4 FEET of fresh snow. All the brethren from church, including Dad, had been up all night shoveling off roofs so they wouldn’t cave in. We still went to church, even with all that snow.

On the other side, today has truly been good. I have felt so successful the past two days, and it’s amazing. I woke up, took a deep breath, and looked outside (I was still excited for snow, at that time). I didn’t have a written list of things to do today, just ideas. I had some phone calls to make, school work, and chores. Something had changed, though.  There was no mental pep talk, just reassurance from on high.

Sincerely, Shelbi

Seriously, M’lady?

Hello Reader,

We got about half an inch of snow last night, though it has all melted now. Apparently we are supposed to have this huge storm tomorrow. Honestly, I hope it comes. I think it would be fun to be stuck inside…well, that is if we don’t lose power. Brr.

My mom and sisters have been watching Downton Abbey together for the past week or so. I would walk in occasionally and just stand there, with no intention of staying longer than a minute. Of course, I failed miserably. Finally, I just gave up watching it, all together. I seemed to walk in at all the wrong moments. I love the era in which the series takes place, the music, and characters. I just don’t like all the happiness being ruined by death and sorrow. It’s like their raincloud was trying to pull mine out of the shadows. I don’t need that type of negativity in my life. Goodbye, Downton.

Sincerely, The Disappointed Watcher

To learn, or not to learn?

Hello Friends,

It has been a long time since I have written. Honestly, I forgot that I had a blog. Hopefully, I can continue writing like no time has passed. Here's to a new start!

So, its 2016 already and I am so excited for things to come. First, there is my birthday coming in a few months. I will finally be able to sing Taylor Swift's song "22" and mean it. The next thing is that I finally had the courage and opportunity to start college! I am taking courses through BYU-Idaho's program called Pathway. I have the flexibility of taking classes online as well as having a gathering each week to discuss what I have learned with other students, just like me. I am already in my second semester. A+ student, man! This seriously is the best decision I have made in my life, thus far.
Another thing that has blessed my life greatly is that last July I was able to start attending church with other young singles like me! It was a fantastic transition that I truly needed. I have met so many new people, some of which I have grown to love so dearly.

I have some awesome plans for this year, most of which are focused on improving myself and my view on life. I can't wait to get going!

Love, The Shelbster
